The situation
Kemal Ağa is one of Gaziantep's most beloved confectionery houses — a brand founded in 1947 on the city's famous Silk Road pistachio heritage. Their chocolates, marzipan, and traditional sweets have a following across Turkey, and when the decision was made to sell internationally, the obvious approach was to build a store and set up shipping. The obvious approach runs into a serious problem immediately: cold-chain requirements. Chocolate and certain pistachio confections require refrigerated transit. Not every country in their target markets has refrigerated carrier options. An order of chocolate truffles shipping to a Nordic country in summer is fine. The same order shipping to a Gulf country in August is a box of melted chocolate. The checkout engine we built treats cold-chain compliance as a first-class concern, not an afterthought. Every product is tagged with its temperature requirements (standard, cool, refrigerated). Every target country is mapped to the carriers available there with their cold-chain capability flags. At checkout, before a customer reaches the payment step, the cart is validated against the country×product matrix. If a combination isn't viable, the customer sees a clear explanation and a suggestion for what can ship — before they've entered card details. For compliant orders, the engine selects the optimal carrier per shipment group (cold-chain-required products may ship separately from ambient products), calculates accurate transit windows that account for refrigerated logistics timelines, and surfaces all of this clearly on the checkout screen. The product catalog — 435+ SKUs across pistachio products, chocolates (Dubai, Istanbul, and Halep styles), marzipan, and seasonal collections — is managed entirely by the client through a clean admin panel. No developer involvement needed for catalog updates.
