The situation
Mukhmal Perfumes is a small, carefully curated fragrance brand based in Gaziantep, selling locally crafted and sourced perfumes to a loyal customer base in the city and increasingly across Turkey. Perfume is one of the hardest categories to sell online. It's an entirely sensory product — and the one sense that matters can't be transmitted through a screen. The standard e-commerce response is to lean on product specs: top notes, base notes, longevity ratings, volume. That information is useful, but it doesn't convert a browser into a buyer. What converts is story and emotion. We designed Mukhmal's product pages around that principle. Each fragrance has a dedicated narrative section — the inspiration behind it, the feeling it's designed to evoke, the story of where its key ingredients come from. That section is styled separately from the specs section and placed first, so a customer's emotional response is formed before they read the technical details. Photography direction focused on warmth, texture, and context rather than white-background product shots. The checkout was designed around Mukhmal's local delivery reality. Gaziantep customers have access to same-day delivery slots (available on the delivery step based on geo-detection), which significantly lowers the barrier for purchasing. Gift wrapping is presented as a one-click add-on at the product level — not buried in a checkout step — and 38% of orders take it. For the rest of Turkey, standard carrier options with accurate delivery windows pulled from carrier APIs in real time. The complete build was delivered in 4 weeks.
What had to change
Selling fragrance online means bridging an impossible sensory gap. Customers can't smell a product through a screen. Standard product-spec pages — notes, longevity, concentration — inform but don't persuade. Without the atmosphere of a physical boutique, conversion rates for new customers are low. Additionally, local delivery complexity (same-day Gaziantep, national carrier for the rest of Turkey) needed to feel natural in the checkout, not like an afterthought.
What we changed
Story-first product page design: each fragrance leads with a narrative section — inspiration, mood, ingredient origins — styled to evoke emotion before the customer reads specs. Photography direction emphasised warmth and context. Gift wrapping surfaced as a one-click product-level add-on, not buried in checkout. Geo-detection at the delivery step unlocks same-day slots for Gaziantep customers automatically. National carrier options with real-time API delivery windows for the rest of Turkey. Full build in 4 weeks.
